The Rainbow Initiative (RI) is Episcopal Migration Ministries' response to General Convention 2022 Resolution D045 "On Supporting LGBTIQ+ Refugees and Asylum Seekers". RI works with Episcopal congregations and others to bring visibility and aid to LGBTQ+ forced migrants.
Church of the Ascension is a charter member of The Rainbow Initiative and we are marching with a Rainbow Initiative banner in the upcoming Christopher Street Day parade on Saturday, 28 June, after attending the ecumenical service at 10 a.m. at the Kreuzkirche, Hiltenspergerstraße 57, featuring the Regenbogenchor and Unicorns4Jesus.
We would love for you to join us for the service as well as all or part of the parade. It is our chance to show that the Episcopal Church welcomes LGBTQ+ people and is marching in support of LGBTQ+ forced migrants and asylum seekers. If you have questions, please contact the Junior Warden (George Battrick) or Janet Day-Strehlow.
Practical Details
The Kreuzkirche is 250 m from U2 Hohenzollernplatz.
The parade starts from near Mariahilfplatz (site of the Auer Dult). We have position 34 out of 200 groups in the parade, and will start from the same place as last year in Ohlmüllerstr/Am Nockherberg: walk from U1/2 Kolumbusplatz or Fraunhofer Str. There are toilets nearby our starting position. Official start is 12:00, but it will typically take half an hour before it gets to us. It's perfectly OK to join and leave along the way, but we need a minimum of four people at all times to take care of our banner and leaflets and ID. We can give you our location as you near our route: text/SMS/call 01520 829 3438. The parade finishes near Odeonsplatz (U3/4/5/6) where many organisations will have stalls. It would help hugely if you let us know if you will participate, but spontaneous decisions are also welcome!
