Münchner Tafel / Food Bank
Baskets with items donated by parishioners
Two or three times a year, the outreach committee and parishioners support the Münchner Tafel at the Großmarkthalle in Sendling. We provide toiletries, cleaning materials, and mugs filled with goodies. For the children there are games, puzzles, books, and small toys. Particularly popular is our bric-a-brac section with costume jewelry and small gifts. Each visit has a theme – Christmas in the winter with knitted items and holiday-themed gifts, Easter in the spring with chocolate bunnies, and back-to-school in the fall with school supplies.
Here’s an account of our Christmas Tafel visit last year, from our parishioner Chiara Ridolfi, which really captures the joyful spirit of the day.
“As soon as I read the cheery announcement of the "outreach" group for the pre-Christmas stand at Tafel on December 7th, I immediately signed up. A perfect opportunity to do something meaningful in a team where it feels like family.
I chose the first shift in the morning because I really like the part about setting up the stand to create the free "boutique" . The donations from church members were really generous: scarves, gloves, children's clothes, toys, Christmas items, chocolate-filled mugs and so much more. It's nice how everyone's personality is expressed, and someone is especially good at giving advice making people feel as special as if they were in a real boutique.”
