COMPLINE

Regular daily prayer is part of our Christian heritage. Compline is the last of the services of the Daily Office.  It comes at the end of the day as sleep beckons. Our Church of the Ascension service of Compline takes place each Thursday online at 20:00 and lasts for ca. 20-25 min. For those who so wish, there is a time of fellowship starting at 19:45 before we settle for worship. Compline is a service of prayer, gratitude, reflection, contemplation and hope. It ends with a sense of peace. Join us.  Link

EMMUASKIRCHE – “LIVE AM BAU”

Our siblings at the Emmauskirche are beginning to prepare for things when the building renovation work is completed.  The first service back in the church sanctuary is scheduled for Sunday 26 July and a rededication festival celebration will be held in October.  If you wish to find out the latest status of developments, please come along to the information sharing event “Live Am Bau” at Emmauskirche on Monday 18 May at 19:00.  Note: fundraising continues and while some 240.000 has already been secured, a further 500.000€ is needed.  Donations can be made through Church of the Ascension, via our Treasurer.

 MENS’S NIGHT OUT

The next Men's Night Out will return to the original "curry and beer" theme: we will meet on Thursday 7 May from 18:30 at the Dhaba Indian Restaurant, Herzogstr 1b, 80803 Munich, which is just a few steps from Exit D of the Münchner Freiheit U-Bahn station (U3/6).

The menu offers items at all levels of spiciness, and vegetarian and vegan options are included: likewise non-alcoholic drinks as well as beer and wine. We will have a drink and share starters while people arrive, and then order our main courses together. But feel free to arrive whenever you can. We typically finish around 9pm, but you can leave when you wish or need to.

There is no theme for the Men's Night Out evening, neither theological nor secular, but the conversation can go in any direction. In principle everybody pays their own way (and eats and drinks as they wish), though sometimes if it seems convenient and fair we have split the bill evenly between us.

Please inform George Battrick (gwb@muc.de) by Tuesday 5 May if you plan to attend, so that he can adjust the reservation accordingly.

MENTERSCHWAIGE REOPENS!

The Menterschwaige beer garden (Menterschwaigstraße 4, 81545 München) re-opened last year with Augustiner beer and fully new serving area. If the weather allows, we plan to return to our old tradition and go there for refreshment and fellowship after the Episcopal/Lutheran Ascension Day service in the Emmauskirche Gemeindesaal. All are welcome! Of course alcohol-free drinks are also available, and both meat and vegetarian food options.

PENTECOST READINGS "in many tongues"

As is our tradition, we plan to include as many "mother tongue" languages as we can in our reading from the Acts of the Apostles on Pentecost Sunday, 24th May.

This can be a very moving experience, and also celebrates the diversity of our congregation. Languages from where you have lived or studied can also be included.

All you have to read out by yourself is the name of your language and Acts 2 verses 1-2: then join in with everybody for verses 3-12 to make the "rushing wind" sound. You will be able to find the text on the internet if you don't have a bible in your own language.

Please contact George Battrick (gwb@muc.de) with the name of your language if you are able to do this.

GUIDED TOUR OF ST. ANTON - 10 MAY

Have you ever wondered about the building that we currently worship in, and the Schmerzhafte Kapelle just round the corner, and the friezes and other artworks in both buildings? St Anton's congregation includes Florian Ertl, a noted local historian, and he has agreed to give us a guided tour of both buildings after our service on 10 May.

We will meet after a short coffee break at 13:30, and the full tour will last around 90 minutes.

THE OUTREACH COMMITTEE:

Ascension At The Tafel – Thank You!

On Apr18th, a group from Ascension served at the Tafel, distributing toiletries, chocolates, and little gifts, serving several hundred needy people. Our service and gifts were received with much gratitude by the Tafel customers and made a difference for them.

Thanks for your generous support with your donations and for the hands-on help by those serving on-site.

If you are interested in this ministry or would like to volunteer for the next Tafel events, contact outreach@ascension-munich.com.

Trip To “Wildpark Poing”

You are invited to join a group of students, their parents and staff from the Christophorous Schools on an outing to the Wildpark in Poing, which we support and make possible through our outreach budget.

The event is scheduled for Saturday May 9th, approx 10-14h. Anyone who would like to join this highly rewarding, unique day please get in touch with: Jillalisonthomas@googlemail.com

English Childrens Books

The Christophorus Pre-School would greatly appreciate donations of unwanted English-language books for young children. For many newly arrived children, English is often the first and only shared language, making these books an especially valuable resource for communication.

Book donations can be dropped off at church after the Sunday service.

WHAT IS THE AUCTION OF TALENTS?

This is a fun community-building exercise where we can help raise money for the church.  We are looking for people to offer activities or services (like a dinner or cooking class, walk around one of the many lakes, concerts, sweets for special occasions, helping someone around the house etc.)  There will be 4 Sundays (starting 14 June) where you can make a “bid” on what is offered.   An example from the last Auction of Talents will be at the Usher’s table.

We will also keep those of you who join us on-line informed of what is happening so that you can also bid.  We may end up with some on-line presentations!

Please start thinking about what you might like to offer or what you might need – be creative!

GOLDEN GIRLS MEETING

'Golden Girls will meet next at 10:00-14:00 on Saturday, 23 May.  We will start in the Parish House at Emmauskirche and conclude with time enjoying a meal together at the Tagesbar, in Grünwalderstr. from 12:00.  The theme for our meeting is ‘My favourite (short) poem.  Please let Joan Case know (MJCase@gmx.net) if you intend to join the gathering so that an appropriate reservation can be made at the restaurant.  If you would like to find out more about this event or Golden Girls in general, please also contact Joan.'
