LENTEN DEVOTIONAL BOOK
This year’s Lenten Devotional Book for the Church of the Ascension, Munich invites you to walk through Lent in the company of St. Francis and St. Clare. Through short, historically grounded stories from their lives and gentle, contemplative reflection questions, this booklet offers a simple and prayerful way to deepen your journey toward Easter. Each devotion is designed to be read slowly, allowing space for silence, journaling, and honest conversation with God.
Copies are available at church for you to take and use throughout the season. You may also download a copy below if that is more convenient. Please note that the downloadable version is lower resolution than the printed booklet, which has been prepared for easier reading and prayerful use.
We warmly encourage every member of Ascension to take part — whether individually, as a household, or with friends. May this small companion help us, together, to “begin again” this Lent, opening our hearts more fully to Christ and to one another.
COMPLINE
Regular daily prayer is part of our Christian heritage. Compline is the last of the services of the Daily Office. It comes at the end of the day as sleep beckons. Our Church of the Ascension service of Compline takes place each Thursday online at 20:00 and lasts for ca. 20-25 min. For those who so wish, there is a time of fellowship starting at 19:45 before we settle for worship. Compline is a service of prayer, gratitude, reflection, contemplation and hope. It ends with a sense of peace. Join us. Link
LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS
Join us this Lent for our Soup Suppers following our church services on 8th March and 22nd March. These simple, shared meals are a wonderful opportunity to slow down, connect with one another, and deepen our sense of community during this sacred season. Over warm bowls of soup and friendly conversation, we’ll enjoy fellowship while also supporting an important cause, as all donations will go toward our local soup kitchen. Whether you come every week or just once, your presence will help make these gatherings meaningful—nourishing both body and spirit while extending care to neighbors in need.
THE BIBLE AND FAMILY LIFE
There are 2 Zoom Pop-Up Convocation Talks (sponsored by the European Institute of Christian Studies) coming up in March and April, led by our Canon Theologian, Martyn Percy. We had a fascinating discussion in February and look forward to having deeper discussions with the next sessions. The first, Thursday, 12 March, is on The Bible and Marriage. The second, Wednesday, 15 April, is on The Bible and Family Life. Both sessions are from 19:00 – 20:30. Please register here even if you cannot make the call, we can send out a recording to you, but only if you registered
